ElectaFile Short Summary: 30 Hour Checklist—3Q Plus Reports Due Tuesday, October 29 at 11:59 PM EDT

Good Monday morning, campaign finance fans!

Most of you are nearly done with your 3Q Plus Reports—they are due by 11:59 PM EDT on Tuesday, October 29. That’s tomorrow night!

As you punch these things in between now and tomorrow, please bear in mind three things:

1. It is Better to File. Many of our customers and friends in the campaign finance treasurer ranks are awash in information and data that must be managed, reviewed, and inputted. When you use ElectaFile, data entry is easy, and our dashboards display reports clearly and easily. Either way, go and and file even if you require additional info from others. If you are waiting on receipts or donor addresses, go ahead and file with what you know is true (i.e., the accurate information you have). You can amend later.

2. Err on Side of Being Descriptive. Our advice to anyone who asks about a tricky transaction is “overshare”. We encourage filers to use available data fields (i.e., comment boxes) to include details to be transparent to the State Board professionals and to your future selves to help you remember the details surrounding those tricky transactions.

3. Forgetting to Sign Reports is an Avoidable Headache. Historically, you had to print off your cover sheet, wet ink sign it, and mail it or FedEx it by the due date. This was true even if you e-filed. It is still true that you must send in signed reports. And you can still do it the old fashioned way—just be sure to get the signed cover sheet in the mail by tomorrow.

   Great News Though: This year you can use electronic signatures without going to the Post Office or the FedEx store. The State Board has changed its practice to allow e-signatures using Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is free to download. Here’s a link to their instructions of how to do this.
