Don't Forget About 48 Hour Reports!
Watch out for this extra filing obligation that affects some of you.
Talk about a good problem to have…A $1,000 or more contribution in the run up to an election!
Bear in mind that if your committee received or receives a contribution of $1,000 or more between February 15 and March 3 (the day of the Primary), you need to file something called a 48-Hour Report. You can do this electronically using ElectaFile.
The 48-Hour Report is a legally-required transparency tool designed to let the world know of late money moving in advance of the impending election. In this case, it’s the primary on March 3 that drives the reporting window. There will be a similar window in the run up to the General Election in November.
Note that the 48-Hour Report is overlayed “on top of” the regular quarterly reports. You can learn more regarding the reporting schedule here: https://www.ncsbe.gov/campaign-finance/reporting-schedules/state-and-county-reporting-schedule and read an oldie but a goodie we wrote on 48 Hour Reports here: https://electafile.beehiiv.com/p/how-to-file-48-hour-reports-what-are-48-hour-reports
Take good care!
