Reminder: Year End Semi Annual Report due Jan. 30, 2026

First Filing of 2026...Let's Go!

Good morning! If you’re reading this message, you’ve subscribed to our newsletter or filed a report using ElectaFile or both. If you’d like to unsubscribe from these emails, please click the link below to unsubscribe. We mean to help and, if you leave, we part as friends.

A short note to remind all of you that the Year End Semi Annual Report for 2025 is due by Friday, January 30, 2026—two weeks’ from now.

Many of you are new because we’ve had a ton of new candidates file to seek office last month. We’ve previously sent a checklist for new candidates (and their treasurers!) that you can find on our free newsletter web page.

In addition to today’s deadline reminder, we’re going to write quickly about some traps folks are encountering with navigating new candidacies:

  1. Candidacy starts via two channels not one (three different documents filed in two different places). Two, parallel paths. First, your candidate filed a Notice of Candidacy with either County Board or State Board. Second, you’ve got to start your campaign reporting via a Statement of Organization and a Certificate of Financial Responsibility. These latter are two are both paper documents and they are different from the Notice of Candidacy.

  2.  Organizational Reports are the Trap! Most people forget about the Organizational Report. It sounds like the “Statement of Organization,” but it is different. People miss this all of the time! The Organizational Report is the quick report right after you start campaign activities. The next regularly-scheduled report, i.e., the Year End Semi Annual Report, picks up time time period between the last day of the Organizational Report and the the last day of the then-current reporting period.

We have a ton of content on this newsletter (which you know is of course free to ElectaFile users and everyone on the planet…), so we won’t belabor it here.

Good luck in the next two weeks. If you’re doing filings, you will do great. Thanks for being willing to get into politics without which we wouldn’t have public service. Without public service, America isn’t America.

Go get’em.
