State Board Requesting E-Filing

ElectaFile Short Summary: State Board is Asking for E-Filing in Many Instances…

Folks, we’re hearing that folks in Campaign Finance land are getting word from State Board professionals that e-filing is required.

Here’s what that means: the State Board likely looked at your 3Q Plus Report and saw that you’ve got enough money coming in and going out from your account that e-filing is required by law.

Here are your options:

1. Use Free State Software. The free State software is downloadable from the State’s website. Linked here. It requires hard drive space and downloading a piece of software that is based off of Microsoft Access databases. Free is nice. There’s a learning curve, and many power users of the State software are happy enough with it to continue to use it. You can use it, too.

3. Use a Campaign Fundraising Platform that Has an Add On E-Filing Feature. We think of these platforms as the Ferraris and Lamborghinis in this space. Large statewide campaigns don’t bat an eyelash at the monthly prices these guys charge. They offer all sorts of bells and whistles that help manage donor contacts, donor data, and Fundraising outreach. This could be for you, too. If you need it, that’s money well spent. Names like “Campaign Manager by Aristotle” and “NGP Van” are places to look depending on your party. We can suggest others.

Because of the way the law is written, if you hit certain thresholds in money in your account, e-filing is required. The deal is similar for certain candidate committees running statewide.

If you’re getting a notice after filing a 3Q Plus Report, chances are you hit the $$$$ threshold.
